Mourinho Whining About New Signings JustIfied

Written by Stephen Wennberg

The transfer window in England will be closing on Thursday night and Manchester United, like every other club, are hoping to bring in more bodies before the deadline. Jose Mourinho has been whining about lack of activities from the club management. Manchester United have only made two major signing in Fred and Diogo Dalot this summer. This putting into retrospect against their fellow top six clubs shows that United might be far behind.

Manchester United finished the league finished with 81 points last season, 19 behind league winner and arch rival, Manchester City. The City team that won the league have some squad players that are yet to fully participate in first team actions whose quality are top notch and can command first team shirt at rival club. These set of players will come with more energy and vigor for the new season and will be like new signings for Pep Guadiola’s side.

Liverpool have also been very active in the market, strengthening in departments they far lagging behing last season. They are not just adding bodies, but quality ones. Bringing in a goalkeeper for a world record fee in Alisson, buying two central midfielders in Nabil Keita and Fabinho is what club do when they want to challenge. Manchester United have no shown that.

The major place United needed to strengthen are in the defence. With so many average players who have shown over time that they don’t have what it takes to help United win their first premier league title since Sir Ale Ferguson left, what Jose identified was bringing in new centre backs, at least one quality centre back. He kept on saying he has submitted the names of five players early in the summer and we still wait for United to sanction a deal.

It is understandable that some of the players have to leave in order to make new signing, so as not to have an over blotted wage bill. This still lies with the management to ensure they get good money for them. With the transfer window closing few hours away, United have to act fast because the failure of Mourinho to win the league title or a major title this new season is also the failure of Manchester United as a club. He might lose his job at the end of the day but United will also be a step further behind the likes of City. Ed Woodward have to act swiftly to salvage the situation now.
